Heatherwald Morgans News
Summer is over. Winter preparations are underway. We are already looking forward to spring and the 2011 foal crop.
In the last year or so, Heatherwald Morgans has seen its ups and downs. On the down side, we lost two stallions, Whispering Warlock and Rockridge Promise Me…old age catches up with us all. They are gone from our lives, but not forgotten….the hoof prints they left on our hearts will run on forever.
On the up side, we were able to acquire some stellar mares; all daughters of legendary Morgan stallions. Missguided Angel, (Nostradamus x Brentwood Lotus), came home to Heatherwald in August 2009 with a filly at her side, Heatherwald Heaven Sent, by Coachmans Dark Shadows. Spring Break, (UVM Springfield x Super Issue), and Cinco De Myia, (Holiday Compadre x Pretty Wild), came home to Heatherwald in November 2009. Spring Bouquet, (UVM Springfield x Super Issue), came home to Heatherwald in April 2010. We couldn’t be more pleased and excited with the caliber of these mares. All four mares have been bred to UVM Gordon, one of the stallions at Heatherwald Morgans, for 2011 foals.
2010 has been a good year for us. We are very excited about our foal crop. Most of the foals were by UVM Gordon and we are pleased with the outcome. We are working on finishing the interior of our new barn as well as putting the finishing touches on outdoor arenas and work rings.
We attended the 2010 Midwest Horse Fair in April at the Alliant Center in Madison WI. We were in Barn 4 on Stallion Avenue with 2 of our stallions, UVM Gordon, (UVM Abington x UVM Karen) and Heatherwald King Arthur (Casland Fel King x Bald Mt. Jewel’s Gem). As always, we raffle off a Morgan Breyer model horse. This year the Breyer model horse was won by Taylor L. of DeForest WI who sent us a nice drawing. Taking second in the raffle and winning a copy of the book “Justin Morgan Had a Horse” was Noelle M. of Manhattan IL whose mother told us is quite the bookworm. Taking third in the raffle and winning a copy of the book “Justin Morgan Had a Horse” was Kaylie B. of Kenosha WI. Congratulations to all the winners!! We brought our then 3-month old Gordon Setter puppy, Charlie, to the Horse Fair and he got more attention than the stallions did! We will be at the 2011 Midwest Horse Fair again on Stallion Avenue. Do stop by and see us, UVM Gordon, Heatherwald King Arthur and a grown up Charlie. Kids, come and sign up for the raffle next year!!
